Engineering Week 2024
We marked Engineering Week in school on 6th and 7th March. The children learned what an engineer is and all the different types of engineers who contribute to the world around us. In groups, the pupils worked on making bridges with various materials. They answered the following questions: What is the problem? Why does it need to be solved? How can we solve it. Inspired by the plight of the Three Billy Goats Gruff in needing to cross the bridge to reach the meadow, the children worked really hard to try build bridges, encountering some problems along the way and modifying their design to make improvements. The activity on Day 2 was investigating how to make really tall towers that were very stable and the senior room investigated how they could do the job of a biomedical engineer and create a working moving prosthetic hand using a variety of materials.
